A lot of chill music uses 'ugly' sounds, like white noise and unsteadiness in pitch reminiscent of old, warped vinyl records, or wonky drumbeats that give a loose, laid-back feel. I thought it would be interesting to hear how alternate tuning systems sound in this genre, and if their strangeness can be 'ugly' in a good way.
