Composer bio:

Alex is a composer, musician and writer based in Auckland. In 2016 he received an Arts Foundation New Generation Award and was a Composer Fellow of the 2017 Tanglewood Music Center. As a performer he has worked with groups including Blackbird Ensemble, Dr. Colossus and Unstuck Opera, and also moonlights as a poet. Last year Alex was awarded Best Composer at the Wellington Theatre Awards for his recomposition of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, for which he also conducted, played violin and sang the role of the sorceress. 2018 features the premiere of a flute concerto in November, as well as works for double bass ensemble, solo guitar, and soprano.
