A primary goal of Xenharmonic Workshop and Showcase 2019 is to make high-quality recordings of microtonal works. Two live performances for community audiences will be taped, as well as any rehearsals requested. Recording equipment will include:
- Saffire Pro 40 8-channel audio interface, with Black Lion Audio mod
- Matched pair of RODE NT1a large-diaphragm condensers, modded by John Bonnell
- Matched pair of AT4031 small-diaphragm condensers, also modded by John Bonnell
- 4 mic stands and cables, one stereo bar for X-Y or OTRF configurations
- Fireface 400 audio interface
- Multiple MacBook Pros running Pro Tools, Reaper, Ableton Live, and Logic Pro
Hold on, do you mean a reading or a recording? Well, it partly depends on the difficulty of your piece, and the skill level of our performers. Assuming those are well-matched, we mean to offer a good recording of your piece that you can use for graduate school and job applications, album releases, etc. We will be in a rustic setting in spaces not designed for recording, so a blanket of locusts with occasional tweeting birds may be something you should plan on.
Think about these possible scenarios when planning your work:
- record several takes of the whole piece
- record the piece in fragments; mix it together later on
- record each instrument track separately with guide tracks in headphones; mix it together later on
- full-suite mixing and production services can be provided as needed by the technology staff at extra charge
